New Jersey Positive Behavior Supports in Schools


Purpose 

New Jersey Positive Behavior Support in Schools (NJ PBSIS) is a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Education Office of Special Education and The Boggs Center, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. As a result of funding through I.D.E.A. Part B, NJ PBSIS provides professional development to school and district personnel at no cost. Since 2003, NJ PBSIS enrolls schools through an application process for teams to participate in a three-year process to design a plan for implementing a multi-tier intervention framework to address social, emotional, and behavioral health.

Training Provided to NJ PBSIS Network Schools

NJ PBSIS training is designed to support school leadership and leadership teams to develop expertise in designing and implementing multi-tier system of support to address student social, emotional, and behavioral health.  Training is distributed across three years to layer in advanced practices and interventions over time.

  • Reshaping Discipline through a Root Cause Lens

Technical Assistance Provided to NJ PBSIS Network Schools

Remote and in-person coaching and technical assistance is provided to NJ PBSIS network school and district personnel. Coaching and technical assistance support the translation of training content to implementation and are provided in concert with each training series. Each school is assigned a coach who supports the teams through the multi-year training process.
