NJLEND Featured in Exceptional Parent Magazine
Saturday, February 1, 2020
The Boggs Center's New Jersey Leadership in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (NJLEND) program is highlighted in the most recent issue of Exceptional Parent Magazine. The article, "Matching Future Health Care Professionals with Families of Children with Special Needs," describes the mentor family component of the NJLEND program's curriculum and other educational opportunities which pair students with families of children with developmental disabilities to develop a deeper understanding of their experiences outside of a clinical context.
The article both emphasizes the important role of parents as educators, and is written by parents who work for SPAN Parent Advocacy, which partners with NJLEND to identify and prepare families from diverse backgrounds to participate as mentors. Two of the authors are former NJLEND Family Fellows and one serves on The Boggs Center's Consumer Advisory Council.
