New e-Learning Course on Independent Living & Housing Opportunities

The Boggs Center, in collaboration with the Division of Developmental Disabilities and the Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey, recently developed a training series to help people understand and plan for independent living and housing opportunities. This six-lesson series provides information about important considerations and options to help people with an intellectual and developmental disabilities plan for and transition to independent living. Each lesson gives an overview of the related topic along with information about resources to assist with securing housing.
Lesson topics include:
- Overview of DHS Support Options
- Person-Centered Planning for Housing
- Affording a Place to Live
- Financial Considerations and Assistant Programs
- Housing Options and Special Considerations
- Ensuring Successful Transitions to Independent Living

If you are a professional employed by a DDD Support Coordination, Supports Brokerage, or other Provider Agency you can access the training through the College of Direct Support (CDS) and it will be tracked in your CDS transcript. Ask your employing agency's CDS Administrator to assign the module, Understanding Independent Living and Housing Opportunities, to you if interested.
